What Makes an Actor Worth Watching?

Being an actor to watch isn’t necessarily about having the biggest social-media following.

For this list, we looked at several factors:

1. Acting Ability

Can the actor convincingly become different characters?

2. Career Momentum

Are they appearing in increasingly important productions?

3. Versatility

Can they move between drama, comedy, romance, action and other genres?

4. Audience Connection

Do viewers remember and connect with their performances?

5. Future Potential

Could their next few projects significantly change their careers?

The Future of Nollywood Looks Promising

One of the most exciting things about Nollywood is the combination of experienced veterans and a younger generation of performers.

Established actors continue to provide experience and credibility, while younger performers are bringing different approaches to acting and storytelling.

Streaming platforms, cinema releases and international interest are also creating more opportunities for Nigerian actors to reach audiences outside the country.

The 2026 AMVCA results are another reminder of the depth of talent within African cinema, with productions such as My Father’s Shadow, Colours of Fire, The Serpent’s Gift, To Kill a Monkey and Lisabi: A Legend Is Born receiving significant recognition.
